Rent Arrears

Your rent and Service Charges/ Conservancy Charges (SC/CC) fees are payable on the 1st of every month. If rent is not paid by the last day of the month, you will be in arrears.

If rent and SC/CC are not fully paid by the end of the second month, a Notice to Quit (NTQ) will be served. Vacant possession of the premises has to be returned to HDB by the end of the next calendar month from the date of the NTQ. Upon the expiry of the NTQ, you will be liable to pay double rent up to the date which the premises is returned to HDB.

If rent arrears persist, HDB will proceed to apply for a court summons.  After the court issues the summons, a process server will serve the summons on you and a Court Judgement will then be obtained.  HDB will apply for a Writ of Seizure and Sale/ Writ of Possession to seize the goods in the premises for auction to recover the rent arrears and also obtain vacant possession of the premises.

On average, the time frame for recovering rent arrears from the issuance of the NTQ is nine months.  In addition to the double rent, you will be liable to pay all legal costs incurred by HDB as shown below:
